What’s New in Microsoft Teams – November Updates

Live Captions with speaker attribution

Teams is adding speaker attribution to live captions. This means that as well as being able to follow along with what is being said, your participants will also be able to identify and focus on the speaker. This helps make meetings more inclusive and easier to follow.

Prevent attendees from unmuting in Teams Meetings

Presenters and Team meeting organisers have all experienced the challenges of interruptions or disruptive participants. To combat this, this update gives organisers the ability to prevent attendees from unmuting themselves during the meeting and enabling certain attendees to unmute, only when they raise their hands. This feature can be useful when hosting live events or webinars, press conferences, or training sessions. You can learn more here.

Advanced Production for Teams Meetings

Transform your meetings into a virtual stage with new advanced production options for your broadcasts. NDI or Network Device Interface support for the platform means producers can not convert each participant’s video into a discrete video source that can be used in the video streaming production tool of your choice. This allows you to utilise your meetings in new ways, including bringing speakers into Together Mode, to deliver professional broadcasts to the endpoint of your choice and reach audiences wherever they are.

Meeting & Calling recordings stored in OneDrive and SharePoint

Currently, meetings and call recordings are stored in Microsoft Stream. However, new updates mean they can no be stored in the easily accessible, and familiar OneDrive for Business or in SharePoint. Providing the ability to share recordings with guests or external users, access those recordings quicker, and manage them with security and compliance controls. Your Team’s Admins can select their recording storage location by updating storage policies using PowerShell.

New offline presence status

The presence status’s on Teams allow us to quickly and efficiently communicate with our colleagues. However, appearing as busy isn’t always enough to deter others from reaching out. You can now change your presence to “Offline”. This allows you to have full access to Teams whilst not alerting others to you being online.

New file sharing experience

One of the main draws of Microsoft Teams is the way it enables your people to work collaboratively on a piece of content, from a single source of truth. You can now create a shareable link for any file stored within teams and directly set the appropriate permissions.

What’s New In SharePoint – November 2020

SharePoint Syntex

The announcement of Project Cortex signaled a new era of innovation at Microsoft. This new initiative looked at how artificial intelligence or AI could be deployed within Microsoft to empower people with knowledge and expertise in the apps they use every day. Syntex is the first product to come from the initiative.

Syntex amplifies human experience and expertise, automates content processing, and transforms your content into knowledge. Syntex mainstreams machine teaching, making it available to businesses regardless of size. It enables your experts to capture their knowledge about content in AI models that they can build with no code.

It’s your team that trains Syntex to understand content the way they do. To recognise vital information and to tag it automatically. For example, the person responsible for processing any new contracts can teach the tool to extract key information like contract value, expiration dates, key terms, and any conditions that may be outside the norm.

We hope you found these insights useful and hope they will enable your business to work more effectively and productively.
