LiveTiles Intranet is end of life

Omnia acquired LiveTiles in June 2024 and the platform is no longer being developed separately. ThinkShare migrates LiveTiles intranets to Omnia, carrying across content, structure, metadata and permissions.

If you are running LiveTiles today, the question is not whether to move but when. ThinkShare plans and runs the migration to Omnia.

LiveTiles was recognised as a Visionary in the 2023 Gartner® Magic Quadrant for Intranet Packaged Services, and it did the job well for a lot of organisations. The platform combined an intranet built on Microsoft 365, an employee app and a people directory.

That capability has not gone away. It has moved. Omnia Digital Workplace covers the same ground, including targeted news, a people directory, automated translation, mobile access and integration with Microsoft Teams and SharePoint Online, and it is the platform now receiving development.

So the question for a LiveTiles customer is not what you lose. It is when you move, and who plans it. Content, document metadata, version history and the permission model all come across, and your own users sign off a pilot before the full migration.

ThinkShare has run intranet builds and migrations for twenty years and we are an Omnia partner. Speak to our team and we will tell you what the move looks like for your environment, including the parts that will need rebuilding.

Omnia bought LiveTiles in June 2024 and the two businesses now trade as one. The products merged into Omnia Digital Workplace, LiveTiles' own product pages point visitors to Omnia, and the development effort sits behind Omnia rather than the LiveTiles platform.

No end of support date has been published. LiveTiles tells existing customers they remain supported on their current solution with no immediate change, so nothing is forcing a decision this quarter. We would treat that as the reason to plan now rather than wait, because a migration you choose the timing of is a different project from one run against somebody else's deadline.

What you gain by moving is a platform under active development. Omnia carries the capabilities LiveTiles customers rely on, including targeted news, automated translation across more than 90 languages, a people directory and WCAG-aligned theming, and it continues to receive feature updates.

ThinkShare is an Omnia partner and we have built and migrated intranets for twenty years. Read more about migrating from LiveTiles to Omnia, or speak to our team and we will give you an honest view of what the move involves for your environment.

Migrating Your LiveTiles Intranet to Omnia

Omnia acquired LiveTiles in June 2024 and LiveTiles is end of life as a separate platform. Omnia Intranet is where the product line has gone, and it offers stronger navigation, governance, multi-language support and Microsoft 365 integration. If you are running LiveTiles today, now is the time to plan the move.

Why move to Omnia?

  • Less rework than a full platform change because Omnia is built on the same Microsoft 365 foundation, so existing content and structure carry across.
  • Capabilities LiveTiles did not have, including advanced mega-menu navigation, targeted news, workspace templates, a people directory and analytics.
  • Active development, with regular feature updates and a published roadmap, which LiveTiles no longer has.
  • Stronger governance, making permissions, content lifecycle and content quality easier to manage at scale.
